Times when I wish I was home

To help celebrate the life of Bea Arthur and her famous role as Dorothy of The Golden Girls, The Hallmark Channel will be paying tribute to the late actress with a 19 hour marathon this Sunday, May 3rd.

I can not think of The Golden Girls without thinking of my Loyola University girls, my old roomies, Liz, Margarita and Cristina. The four of us would sit with Margarita (the biggest GG fan) every night as she gave her self her nightly manicure and watch old shows of the original gossip girls.

The problem with baking cookies that yield 24-you will eat them all! My picky, 2 year old son doesn't eat anything sweet except for gummy bears. My husband works long hours and is never home. So I have a fresh batch of chocolate chip walnut cookies that I meant to have out for our playdate at home. I cancelled the playdate because Diego had fever but I went on and baked the cookies anyway! Oh well. Very yummy.

My first attempt to bake cookies comes during my "put everything in the oven" week. I didn't have an oven in Japan and while I was in NYC I was working full time and didn't bother with trying to bake. In Chicago, my mother used her oven for storage. For birthdays, she was super content with buying a box of Betty Crocker's Devil's Food, a tub of chocolate frosting and there you have "pastel de chocolate"!

Now, I have a lot of time to putz around and try to fill my days with other activities besides playdates and having coffees with "mums". But just like with everything new that I try to do, I kill it. It's on my mind 24/7 and I wake myself up in the middle of the night thinking, "tomorrow I'll roast a chicken in the oven" and keep going for another 2 weeks until I'm bored and the next challenge comes to mind.

The inspiration, motivation, the big kick in the ass came. After years, years of struggling with my writing I decided I would not get anywhere without a start...somewhere. And now it is just coming! Flowing!!! Every time I think of something I want to say, I run to the computer in my kitchen, take off the dish gloves and I type! Enjoy! Let's see what comes out of this!
Besos,
